INTRODUCING... MERCY

In November 2021, Mercy and her new born puppies were spotted in a public shelter in Romania. The family was rescued and placed in a foster home abroad until the puppies were weaned and then Mercy travelled to PJ while her puppies were adopted elsewhere.

Mercy was very wary of people when she first arrived and this just 'told' us what a terrible life she must have had. She was more cautious of men than of women but she slowly started to trust the volunteers and her personality started to peep through.

Since arriving at PJ, Mercy has had a consistent routine with regular visitors and she has thrived. She has shared her kennel and paddock with other dogs although we think she would prefer to be the only pet in the house as she loves human attention all to herself. She now enjoys regular walks on a lead and harness on the local roads, and she loves to run free in the fields at PJ. She has not bothered the livestock or poultry at the sanctuary but we would not trust her with a cat or small pets.

Mercy has left her scary past behind but that memory of fear occasionally shows itself when she meets new people, new dogs, or visits new places - any adopter should be aware of this and be prepared to allow Mercy to settle, learn at her own pace and not push her into situations she isn't fully happy with. Like most dogs, Mercy needs a secure garden where she can rest, play and feel safe.

Mercy is aged about 6 or 7 and is a medium sized dog, maybe 15-18kg. She currently lives with two other dogs (both younger and submissive) but we do think she would be best as an only dog. Mercy is fully vaccinated, spayed, has received all the required health tests abroad and is in great health. She has a really sweet loving nature and it's time she found her special someone to share the rest of her life with.

Sadly, at some time before arriving at PJ, Mercy's tail has been broken and it does not wag. This sounds incredibly sad but her broken tail does not give her any problems whatsover. Having a tail that can't wag means that Mercy shows her happiness in another way - with wonderful smiles! She can also swing her tail and she has an amazing bottom-wagging wiggle when she is at her happiest!

This remarkable little girl is available for adoption and, as with all our dogs, she has our promise of full rescue back up. Mercy is one of those dogs that will be very much missed by the volunteers, but she deserves a home of her own.
